Will also celebrate Thomas Jefferson’s birthday
Senator Jerry Behn and Representative Phil Thompson will be the guests of the Thomas Jefferson Gardens board at the April legislative forum Saturday, April 13, at 11 am at the Welcome Center.
The Iowa legislature will have completed its 13th week of session the previous day. Only bills/resolutions that have been passed by both houses will be eligible for consideration. The last day of session will be May 3 or the 110th day of session. It is on that day the per diem expenses will cease.
Behn serves on five senate committees including education, ethics, natural resources, rules and administration, and ways and means. He recently has suggested to the Greene County board of supervisors that review of the CAFO matrix could be an interim committee study for the summer.
Thompson serves on four house committees including veterans affairs, state government, local government and labor.
The public is invited to attend this interactive session, which will be moderated by Chuck Offenburger, a longtime Des Moines Register columnist now living near Cooper.
Once again students attending Greene County Community Schools and Paton-Churdan Schools are special invited guests, are urged to attend, and will be recognized.
The final Greene County legislative forum will be held in three weeks, on May 4.
Of special significance is the 276th birthday celebration of Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson Gardens board members will serve ice cream made from the recipe originally used by Jefferson. Historians believe he probably first tasted ice cream while visiting his friend Lafayette in Paris and liked it so much he returned to the U.S. and frequently served it at special occasions for his guests.
